The Fair Toxophilites by William Powell Frith (1872). If you look closely, you’ll be able to see the subtle Lesbian theme that runs through many images of women and archery. Also, funny hats.
‘Too Early’ by James Tissot (1873). The painting depicts guests interacting before a ball with hints of flirting and gossiping. Dances such as these were pivotal social events where a lady would hope to meet an eligible gentleman.
